Why VarsityBeat Exists

High school sports are a cornerstone of Sonoma County community life — Friday night football under the lights in Petaluma, basketball rivalries in Santa Rosa, baseball playoffs in Windsor. But for too long, athletes, families, and fans had nowhere to find everything in one place.

VarsityBeat was built to change that. We aggregate scores, standings, schedules, and stories from all four major leagues — the NBL Oak Division, NBL Redwood Division, VVAL, and NCL II — into a single, up-to-date platform designed for the community.

What We Cover

Every varsity program across the region: football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, track & field, cross country, and more. We partner with coaches, parents, and athletes to submit scores in real time, supplement live data from MaxPreps, and publish original recaps and feature stories on the teams and athletes that define local sports.

How It Works

Scores come from two sources: an automated pipeline that pulls from MaxPreps and the Press Democrat, and community submissions from coaches and parents. All data is reviewed by our editors before it goes live. School pages, standings, and sport pages refresh automatically every five minutes so you always see the freshest information.

Photographers and writers can submit content directly through the site. If you cover a game, we want to show it.

Get Involved

VarsityBeat runs on community participation. Coaches can submit scores after every game. Parents can upload photos. Athletes can register profiles. And anyone who wants to write about local sports is welcome to pitch a story.

If you play for, coach, or root for a Sonoma County varsity team, this platform was built for you.
